Always the Light, Never the Choice

Esnyr’s recent experience in Pinoy Big Brother cuts deep—not just for him, but for so many of us who see ourselves in his shoes. The ones who bring light, who offer comfort, who make life easier for others. And yet, when the time comes for people to choose, we are overlooked.

There’s a special kind of sadness that comes with being the person who makes others happy. The one who jokes around, who brings energy to every room, who makes sure no one feels alone.

But when it’s time to choose—when the moment comes to be picked, to be prioritized, to be loved in the way you love others—you’re left behind.

Not seen.
Not picked.
Just an option, never the priority.

For many gay people—especially those labeled as the “clown” in their group—this happens all the time. They love us for our jokes, our energy, our kindness. But when it’s time to choose someone to really care about, we’re often not the ones they pick.

But remember this: You are more than your jokes. You are more than the happiness you bring to others. You deserve to be loved—not just for how you make others feel, but for who you are.

You deserve more.
You deserve to be seen.
You deserve to be picked.
