Used or Brave? Vico Sotto and Kiko Barzaga in the Flood Control Scandal
A major issue is shaking the government. Some lawmakers and contractors are being accused of stealing money from flood control projects. Two well-known public officials; Mayor Vico Sotto and Congressman Kiko Barzaga have responded in very different ways.
Vico Sotto: Honest Mayor, But Was He Used?
Mayor Vico Sotto was invited to speak in Congress about the flood control issue. He said that the contractors, Curlee and Sarah Discaya, are liars and thieves. He talked about their past problems in Pasig and said they were trying to trick people by pretending to be victims.
But many people are asking: why was Vico called to speak in Congress when he’s not directly involved in the case? It looks like some lawmakers may be using his words to protect themselves. The Discayas said that powerful congressmen like Zaldy Co and Speaker Martin Romualdez, and even his political ally Roman Romulo were part of the corruption. By calling the Discayas liars, Vico’s words may help those congressmen avoid blame.
Some observers are now wondering: Does Vico even know what’s really happening? Was he invited to testify not just to share facts, but to help save Congress by discrediting the Discaya couple’s testimony? If so, it’s troubling because Vico is known for being honest and independent. If he’s being used to protect corrupt officials, it could damage his reputation.
I like Vico Sotto because of what he did for the people of Pasig City and I think he has a good future in national politics. He’s smart, honest, and hardworking. Kaya nga lang, baka itong kaapelyedo niya sa Senado ang sisira sa kanyang pangalan. Vico deserves to be known for his own work, not dragged down by political games or family ties.
Kiko Barzaga: The Gen-Z Maverick Who Roared
Congressman Kiko Barzaga, a Gen-Z lawmaker from Cavite, showed courage. He left his political party and became independent. He said clearly that Speaker Romualdez should be investigated first. Kiko didn’t protect his fellow congressmen, he spoke out against them.
During the campaign, Kiko was known for his jokes and playful style. He made people laugh, wore cat ears, and even called himself “Congressmeow.” But behind the humor was a serious man with strong beliefs. He used laughter to connect with young voters, but when it came to corruption and public service, he didn’t joke around. His bold move to resign from his party and speak out against powerful figures shows that he’s not afraid to stand up for what’s right, even if it means going against his own peers.
Kiko is proving that you can be lighthearted and still be deeply committed to change. He’s showing that Gen-Z leaders can be both relatable and brave.
What This Means for the Country
This flood control scandal is not just about money, it’s about trust. People want leaders who will fight corruption, not hide it. Vico and Kiko are both known for being clean and honest. But now, they are showing different sides.
Vico is focused on facts and long-term reforms. Kiko is focused on action and accountability. Both are important, but the public must stay alert and make sure no one is being used to protect corrupt officials.
