Sometimes, We Just Need to Cry Before God

Sometimes, the videos that make us laugh the hardest are the same ones that unexpectedly touch our hearts.

I came across a TikTok video this afternoon posted by Christian Antolin last December 2025 pa. At first, I laughed so hard watching it. The video used the church song “Papuri sa Diyos,” but then it suddenly blended with “Di Na Muli” by Itchyworms.

The caption said, “POV: Nagsimbang gabi ka tapos bigla kang nag-relapse.”

Honestly, the combination was hilarious. Imagine attending Simbang Gabi, singing praises to God, and suddenly remembering all the things you thought you had already moved on from. The expressions in the video made it even funnier.

But as I continued reading the comments, one particular comment caught my attention.

It was a reminder that sometimes, going to church is not only about praising the Lord. Sometimes, it is also about ourselves. Our burdens, our heartaches, our worries, and even the happiness we want to share with Him.

The comment explained that there are times when we go to church because we need divine intervention in the things we are going through. Sometimes, we just need a place where we can release all the pain we have been keeping inside. It is okay to cry. It is okay to feel emotional. It is okay to have moments when we cannot hold back our tears.

And suddenly, my laughter turned into tears.

I found myself thinking, “Oo nga no? Why is it that whenever we have so much in our hearts and minds, and we finally get the chance to talk to God, we end up crying?”

It reminded me of how we used to be when we were children. Whenever something bad happened, whenever someone hurt us, or whenever we could no longer handle something, we would run to our parents and tell them everything.

Sometimes, we would not even know how to explain what we were feeling. We would simply cry while telling them what happened. We would feel safe because we knew that our parents were there to listen, comfort us, and make us feel that everything would be okay.

Maybe that is how it feels when we come before God.

We enter the church looking okay. We wear our best clothes, greet people, and try to act as if everything in our lives is fine. But deep inside, we are carrying so many things that nobody knows about.

Some of us are silently dealing with heartbreaks. Some are still missing someone they can no longer see or talk to. Some are worried about their future, their families, their finances, or the dreams that seem to be taking too long to happen.

Some are fighting battles that they cannot even explain to the people around them.

And others are simply tired.

Tired of being strong. Tired of pretending that everything is okay. Tired of smiling when, deep inside, they just want to break down and cry.

Sometimes, we do not even know what to pray for anymore. We just sit quietly, look up, and let our tears speak for us.

We do not need to have the right words. We do not need to explain every little detail because He already knows what is happening in our hearts. We do not have to hide our sadness just because we are inside His house.

And if we suddenly cry while praying, let the tears fall.

If you need to cry because you still miss someone, cry. If you need to cry because life has been difficult lately, cry. If you need to cry because your dreams are taking longer than you expected, let it out. If you are happy and grateful, share that happiness with Him, too.

There is nothing embarrassing about being emotional in front of God.

Sometimes, the church becomes the one place where we can finally stop pretending. We can put down the weight we have been carrying and allow ourselves to be vulnerable.

And please, do not be afraid of what other people might think when they see you crying during a prayer or a church service. They may not know your story, and you do not have to explain yourself to them.

That moment is between you and God.

I guess that is what makes faith beautiful. Even when we cannot explain what we feel, we can still come to Him. Even when we feel lost, we can still pray. Even when we have made mistakes or gone through things that make us question ourselves, His door is still open.

Maybe some of us have been away from church for months or even years. Maybe we stopped praying regularly because life became overwhelming. Maybe we feel that we have disappointed God because of the choices we made.

But I hope we remember that we can always come back.

Totoo na sometimes, the strongest prayer is not the one we say out loud. It is the one that comes with tears we cannot hold back.

So, if you happen to see someone crying inside the church, please do not judge them. You never know how much they have been carrying before they finally found the courage to sit down and talk to God.

And if you are that person, I hope you know that your feelings are valid. You are allowed to be tired. You are allowed to feel sad. You are allowed to have moments when you feel like you are going backward instead of moving forward.

Maybe one day, we will find ourselves inside a church again, not because everything in our lives is already okay, but because we finally understand that we do not have to face everything alone.

And just like a child running to their parents after a difficult day, may we never feel ashamed of running to our Father in heaven.

Sometimes, we go because we have too much going on inside us, and we know that God is the only one who can truly understand what our hearts cannot explain.

So, the next time you find yourself crying while praying, do not hold back your tears.

Maybe that is your heart finally finding its way home.

Love,

John Rey
