Why Bread’s Classic Songs Still Resonate Today
With classes suspended today due to the volcanic smog from Taal Volcano, I find myself diving into the soothing melodies of yesteryears. Old songs often feel more genuine and heartfelt. One of the bands that I listened to is the American soft rock band Bread. Their songs were created during a time when music was less about technology and more about real instruments and emotions. Their songs often tell stories that many people can relate to, making them timeless. The gentle and melodic tunes of Bread’s music are perfect for relaxation. Whether you’re winding down after a long day or enjoying some quiet time, their music can create a calming atmosphere. Here are ten songs by Bread that I think are still relatable today:
- “Make It with You” - This song is about believing in love and wanting to build a future together.
- “Everything I Own” - This song expresses deep gratitude and love for someone who has made a big impact on your life.
- “Baby I’m-a Want You” - This song talks about the strong feelings of love and need for someone special1.
- “If” - This song is a beautiful expression of unconditional love and devotion.
- “Diary” - This song tells a story of discovering someone’s true feelings through their diary.
- “Aubrey” - This song is about longing and the bittersweet memories of a lost love.
- “Lost Without Your Love” - This song captures the feeling of being incomplete without someone you love.
- “The Guitar Man” - This song reflects on the life and struggles of a musician.
- “Sweet Surrender” - This song is about giving in to love and the comfort it brings.
- “It Don’t Matter to Me” - This song talks about accepting someone for who they are, no matter what.
These songs have stood the test of time because they speak to universal experiences and emotions. They remind us of the importance of love, gratitude, longing, and acceptance. Listening to these songs late at night or during alone time, especially while listening to the drops of rain, can be a soothing and reflective experience. The soft music and meaningful words make it a perfect time to relax and think
The band Bread is no longer active today. They originally disbanded in 1973 and had a brief reunion in 1976-1977. Unfortunately, they have not been active since then. The members have pursued solo careers and other interests over the years.
As of the latest information, David Gates and Robb Royer are the only living members of Bread. Unfortunately, James Griffin and Mike Botts passed away in 2005, and Larry Knechtel died in 2009.
